Comets Top Bucs 8-4

Final Stats

MEMPHIS--Visiting Crichton used five unearned runs to claim an 8-4 victory over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Wednesday afternoon at Buc Field.

Kody Bumpous hit a three-run homer in the second to give the Comets (9-10) a lead they would never relinquish.

The Bucs (8-8) had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) started what would be a big day with a leadoff walk.  He came around to score on a double play.

In the bottom of the third, Foster hit his second homer of the year, trimming the lead to 3-2, but the Bucs failed to score again in the inning despite loading the bases with one out.

In the fourth, Crichton began to cash in on sloppy CBU defense, scoring three runs on a walk, two hits, and three errors.

The Bucs again cut into the lead, drawing run closer as Alvino Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) singled and scored on a Foster groundout.  In the sixth, the Bucs again cut the lead back to two runs when Caleb Burrow (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on an Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) single.

Crichton put it out of reach with a run in the eighth and another in the ninth.

Foster finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Griffy and Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) each went 2-for-4.

The Bucs will be back in action this weekend with their first road series.  CBU visits Montevallo for a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m., with a single game set for 2 p.m. Sunday.
