Final Stats

MEMPHIS--Crichton hit four homers on their way to a 14-1 victory over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Wednesday afternoon at Gagliano Field.

The Comets (19-23) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when Dustin Young hit an inside-the-park homer to right field. After a walk, Terry Reed homered to right, giving the Comets all the runs they would need with a 3-0 advantage.

They tacked on three more in the fourth inning as John David Beane homered to center to start the inning. After two straight hits, an error and a sacrifice fly allowed two unearned runs to score, making it a 6-0 Crichton lead.

The Comets put it out of reach in the fifth, scoring eight runs on five hits, two hit batters, and two walks.

The Bucs (15-24) broke through in the top of the sixth to break up the shutout. Caleb Burrow (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) dropped a bunt single to lead off the inning. Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) grounded into a fielder's choice, and he scored when Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) hit a double to the gap in left-center, setting the final score.

Griffy went 2-for-3 with an RBI, accounting for half of the Bucs' hits.

The Bucs will be back in action this weekend for Senior Weekend as they host Henderson State for a crucial Gulf South Conference West Division series. The Bucs are two games behind Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist, who are tied for third place, with six games remaining.
