Big Eighth Inning Sinks Bucs 13-4

April 20, 2008

Final Stats

MEMPHIS--An eight-run eighth inning lifted visiting Henderson State to a 13-4 victory over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference West Division baseball action.

The Reddies (21-27, 5-12 GSC West) took the lead in the fourth inning, scoring the game's first three runs. Grant Dennis hit a two-run single, and Jeremy Sauceda's RBI single gave HSU a 3-0 edge.

The Bucs (16-26, 7-10) answered with two in the bottom of the fifth. After Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) was hit to lead off the inning, Bobby Lawrence (Germantwon, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) crushed his second homer in as many games to left field. The homer, his fifth of the year, one-hopped the Capstone Apartments beyond the left-field parking lot, nearly 450 feet away.

The Reddies answered with a two-run Jeremy Sauceda homer in the top of the sixth to extend the lead back to three runs at 5-2. They put it out of reach in the eighth. With one out, nine straight players reached base safely, including a three-run Josh Spradlin homer that put them ahead 13-2.

The Bucs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth as Alvino Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) and Trouy led off with back-to-back singles, scoring on a Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) groundout and an Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) single to set the final margin at 13-4.

Trouy and Escajadillo collected two hits each for the Bucs, with Trouy scoring two runs.

The Bucs have four games left in the regular season, all at home. They face North Alabama Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. before finishing the regular season with a three-game GSC West set against No. 24 Ouachita Baptist Saturday and Sunday.
