Flynn, Couvion Named Academic All-GSC West

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Christian Brothers University guards Colin Flynn (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) and Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) have been named to the Gulf South Conference West Division All-Academic Team.

Flynn, a junior, was voted to the team for the second consecutive year. He averaged 1.0 points per game as he played in 29 games.

Couvion, a sophomore, makes his first appearance on the Academic All-GSC Team. He averaged 5.5 points per game as he played in all 32 games, leading the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 122:32.

Couvion and Flynn were joined on the Academic All-GSC West Team by Arkansas Tech guard Brandon Friedel, Harding guard Kellen Morgan, and Harding forwards Phillip Groves and Matt Hall.

The Academic All-GSC teams are voted on by the league's Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. To be eligible, players must carry a 3.2 GPA and be a significant contributor. True freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible.


Couvion and Flynn were also named to the Gulf South Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll by virtue of posting a 3.0 or better GPA and participating in at least one game.

Seven Lady Bucs were named to the Academic Honor Roll. Junior guards Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) and Jessica Plunkett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS), junior forwards Michelle Malone (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS), Katie Quinton (Dresden, Tenn./Dresden HS), and Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg HS), and freshman guards Caitlin Mills (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) and Jen Sneed (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) were all selected to the squad. The Lady Bucs' seven players is second-most in the league, behind the West Florida women's team, which placed nine.

CBU's total of nine players on the Honor Roll ranks fifth in the league. West Florida placed 14 on the team while Alabama-Huntsville, Arkansas Tech, and Delta State had 10 each.
