Three Bucs Named All-GSC

PENSACOLA, Fla.--Gulf South Conference men's soccer coaches have voted three Christian Brothers University Bucs to the All-GSC Team.


Senior midfielder Matt Werakso (Wollongong, Australia) was a unanimous First-Team All-GSC pick for the second straight year after scoring a team-high nine goals this season. Werakso was one of just three unanimous choices.

Sophomore defender Robert Mingo (Covington, La./St. Paul's HS) and junior midfielder Craig De Melo (Langley, B.C./Langley Secondary) were voted to the All-GSC Second Team. Mingo scored two goals with two assists, while de Melo started 17 games as a defensive midfielder.

Montevallo forward Jonathan Maloney repeated as GSC Player of the Year. Ouachita Baptist forward David Reyes won the GSC Freshman of the Year award, while West Florida's Bill Elliott was the GSC Coach of the Year.

Montevallo led all schools with seven All-GSC players, followed by West Florida with six. CBU, Alabama-Huntsville, and Ouachita Baptist placed three players each, while Harding placed one.


The Bucs take on No. 18 Montevallo Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the GSC semifinals.
