MEMPHIS--The Christian Brothers University athletics department was represented well on the 2007 Gulf South Conference Spring All-Academic Teams and the Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Three members of the baseball team were named to the Gulf South Conference West Division Academic All-GSC Team, and 20 baseball players were named to the Academic Honor Roll.
Junior shortstop Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) added an Academic All-GSC award after being named First-Team All-GSC West last month. He hit .382 this season, and he carried a 3.52 GPA in mechanical engineering. Foster was one of four repeat members of the Academic All-GSC Team from a year ago, and he was one of five players named to both the All-GSC West First Team and the Academic All-GSC team this season.
Foster was joined on the Academic All-GSC Team by senior outfielder Ryne Dahlke (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) and senior pitcher Shawn Morgan (Bartlett, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School). Dahlke hit .309 with 13 doubles and 24 RBI, and he posted a 3.91 GPA as he pursues a master's degree in business administration. Morgan went 4-5 with a 5.93 ERA in 57.2 innings this season while recording a perfect 4.0 GPA as he pursues a Master's of Education.
In addition, 20 of the 29 Bucs to play this season earned a spot on the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll, which consists of all student-athletes who carried at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and played in at least one game.
CBU also placed four men's golfers, three women's golfers, six softball players, two men's tennis players, and five women's tennis players on the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll. CBU's total of 40 tied with Valdosta State for the most from any GSC school.
To be eligible for the Academic All-GSC Team, student-athletes must have reached sophomore academic standing with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA. Also, they must be starters or key contributors to their team. GSC Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletics Representatives vote on the teams.
