Huge First Half Lifts Lady Bucs 4-2

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--Four different Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs scored in the first half to pace CBU to a 4-2 Gulf South Conference win at Alabama-Huntsville Friday afternoon.

Senior forward Courtney Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley HS) put CBU (8-7-1, 2-4-1 GSC) on the board in the 16th minute as she scored off a cross from freshman defender Rachel Longley (Middlesbrough, England). Just over a minute later, freshman midfielder Elin Svavarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) converted on a cross from Robertson to put CBU ahead 2-0.

Ina Wam Bjorklid put UAH (7-8-1, 2-5-1) on the board in the 19th minute, but the Lady Bucs scored the next two goals to put the game away.

In the 21st minute, sophomore defender Kristi Ansboury (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS) scored the game-winning goal off a feed from freshman defender Samantha de Melo (Langley, B.C./Langley Secondary). Junior forward Nicole Evans (Rugby, England) finished the Lady Bucs' scoring in the 36th minute as she scored off a long pass from senior defender Heidi Routch (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central HS).

The Lady Chargers finished the scoring in the 41st minute as Katie Campione capitalized on a Bjorklid cross.

For the game, UAH out-shot CBU 26-8, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal, but the Lady Bucs scored on all four shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christina Barone (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows HS) made eight saves to protect the win for CBU.

The Lady Bucs will finish their GSC season Sunday afternoon as they visit West Georgia at 1 p.m. They return home Tuesday night to take on Rhodes at 7 p.m.
