Svavarsdottir Named GSC Freshman of the Year

Nov. 2, 2007

PENSACOLA, Fla.--Gulf South Conference women's soccer coaches have voted Christian Brothers University midfielder Elin Svavarsdottir (Reykjavík, Iceland) the league's Freshman of the Year.

Svavarsdottir scored eight goals with five assists for 21 points as she helped CBU to an 8-9-1 mark on the season. She is the fifth Lady Buc to win GSC Freshman of the Year, joining Shoko Mikami (2003), Veronica Botold (2001), Tina Froberg (2000), and Anna Thorsdottir (1999).

Svavarsdottir was also voted to the All-GSC Second Team, where she was joined by freshman defender Gigja Heidarsdottir (Hafnarfjörður, Iceland). Heidarsdottir anchored the CBU defense as she played 17 games, starting 16.

Harding forward Kendyl Washburn was the GSC Player of the Year, while Montevallo's Patricia Hughes was named the GSC Coach of the Year.

West Florida and Montevallo placed five players each on the All-GSC Team, while Ouachita Baptist placed four. Harding and West Georgia had three players each on the team, followed by CBU's two.
